Garrett County teens are mastering more than math, science and literature; they’re learning how to be financially responsible adults.
A component of Garrett County’s curriculum since 2009, the Southern High School Financial Literacy Foundation empowers students to set “SMART” goals—milestones that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. The economists in training at Southern and Northern High Schools learn financial strategies with real world applications—and real time results. Topics ranging from investments to identity theft help students make informed decisions about their financial lives.
