Mountain MD Gateway to the West Launches New App

Garrett County, Maryland's Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area is pleased to announce the launch of its new Garrett Heritage tour app which is currently available for download at www.garrettheritage.com. The app is made possible through funding provided by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
 
Visitors and residents can download the new app for heritage-related tours that take them on a step-by-step journey through Garrett County. Tours include fall foliage, barn quilt, and other heritage area themes. Directors guide visitors to each stop and are available offline, perfect if your phone drops service. Be on the lookout for tours to be added in the future, including trail routes and so much more! Download today to start exploring.
 
"We're very excited to have our own free Heritage Area app launched and ready for the public," said Jen Durben, Heritage Area and Groups Manager. "Visitors and residents alike will be able to explore our area's heritage in an easy and fun way right from their phone or tablet."

The Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area is one of 13 certified Heritage Areas by the State of Maryland. Established in September 2011 and managed by the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, the Heritage Area's mission is to engage public and private partners in the commitment to preserve historical, cultural, and natural resources for sustainable economic development through heritage tourism. The Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area supports heritage tourism in Garrett County through technical assistance and grant opportunities with a focus on heritage-related initiatives that preserve valuable heritage resources and enhance tourism in the county. As a state-certified Heritage Area, effort is made to create public and private partnerships to preserve historical, cultural, and natural resources focusing on underutilized resources fostering a greater sense of community pride.
