Members of the Garrett County Arts Council and staff at The Gallery Shop in Oakland hung new work on the shop walls this week. All of the artwork at the shop, which is located at 108 S. Second Street, has been replaced with new work from local juried two-dimensional artists. The new display opened Tuesday.

Among the works now exhibited is a 4-foot painting by Rebecca McClive of the Wisp, a new original oil painting by Hilmar Gottesthal, and photography by Neal Blizzard. Items that can be found throughout the year have been refreshed and rearranged. These items are baskets, cutting boards, and furniture from Pleasant Valley Woodcrafts, Hickory Hollow Woodshop, and John Forman. Jewelry from Wirestorm Creations and Snowbird Studios is on display, as well as the hand-made soaps from Quaking Maples Farm and cards from many member artists.

Three times a year, the Gallery Shop staff juries in new artists from Garrett County and the surrounding area. The newest accepted artists are oil painter Lynn Mehta, acrylic painter Lynn Uphold, and watercolor painter Rachel Precht.

This display will be on exhibit to May 2019. As works are sold, new pieces from juried artists are rotated in. The Gallery Shop is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Along with the new arrangement at the shop, a special exhibit of artwork from the Garrett County Arts Council staff has been installed. This exhibit will be on view until mid-March. A morning reception to meet the staff will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and coinciding with the Winter Fest activities.

The Gallery Shop is a project of Garrett County Arts Council. Funding is provided by Garrett County government, Maryland State Arts Council, and through membership support. Memberships are available throughout the year for $25 per person. For more information, persons may contact GCAC at 301-334-6580 or visit www.garrettarts.com.
