The White Barn at Lucas Farm in the Red House area near Oakland has received three awards in the wedding industry already this year.

“The Knot,” known as one of the leading wedding brands in the country, named the White Barn on its 2019 “Best of Weddings” list. This honor is given to the top 2 percent in the wedding industry.

Through “Wedding Wire,” one of the world’s largest wedding platforms, the White Barn received the “Couple’s Choice Award” for 2019.

In addition, FOUR Magazines, a luxury lifestyle and food publication, listed it as a 2019 Best Venue.

The business is no stranger to recognition.

The White Barn was also voted the 2018 Reader’s Choice for Venues/Entertainment by Gladys Magazine.

The farm, located at 4161 Garrett Highway, is a wedding and event venue owned by Matt and Brittney Lucas.

“The barn has always been a lifelong dream of mine, and I was unsure if it would ever become more than that,” Brittney Lucas said. “Motivation, hard work, determination and our faith brought us to our forever farm.”

Both are from Oakland.

“We are locals,” Lucas said. “We know the town, the people, the community. We have spent our lives building friendships and relationships with people all over this small, tight-knit place we call home.”

After several years of business ownership (including a bar/restaurant and home decor business) and the birth of three daughters, the couple decided the time was right. They started to move forward with their ideas.

“We purchased the farm from his parents that had been in the family dating back over 200 years,” Lucas said. “The 40 acres had been subdivided from the family farm in 2009. The fields were used for crops and to harvest sod for the family business. We always knew the landscape was picture-perfect and that the land was longing for something bigger.”

The business opened in June 2017 and had nine weddings that year. 2018 saw 33 weddings and events. Currently, 40 weddings and events are booked throughout 2019.

The White Barn offers services for wedding ceremonies and receptions. On-site accommodations are also available in the farmhouse located on the property next to the venue. In addition, the business offers wedding rentals and coordinating and planning services.

“We are almost booked for two years out,” Lucas said. “This year, we have couples from 13 different states being married here. We also have heat in our venue, so we provide wedding and event services year-round.”

In looking to the future, Lucas noted that she and her husband always have plans.

“Matt and I are very innovative, and we love change,” she said. “We love growth and adapting to trends and what people want. Anyone who has followed us since the beginning knows that we are always evolving and adding new things to the property.”

Besides being an owner, Lucas is the planner, coordinator, designer and decorator at The White Barn. She enjoys “creating a magical place for people to tie the knot and start their lives together.”

She says there is nowhere else she’d rather be.

“My favorite part of this business is being a part of the beginning of a couple’s life,” Lucas said. “I get to be with them from the very beginning of the process until the end of the evening when they leave as husband and wife. There is nothing better than seeing two people who love each other more than anything celebrate with friends and family on our farm!”
