Advanced Heating and Cooling is located at the U.S. Route 219 end of Sand Flat Road.Advanced Heating and Cooling is a new presence in the Deep Creek Lake area.
The company is celebrating 20 years in business in Morgantown, West Virginia. It recently started to serve the Garrett County area from its new office at 4382 Sand Flat Road, which has an Oakland address.
Dave Seman, owner and president of the company, explained that he was involved in the restaurant industry and started the company in 2000 to service his restaurants, and it grew from there.
“We are a factory-authorized Carrier dealer, which makes us different from other Carrier dealers,” Seman said. “Only 4 percent of the Carrier dealers in the country are factory authorized.”
He explained that Carrier is a very old company with roots in inventing air conditioning.
“They have been around for a while and have a lot of innovative technology,” Seman said. “We’re thrilled to be a Carrier dealer, quite honestly.”
In addition, the company’s service techs are trained to work on any make or model.
He noted that his employees are all from the local area. In fact, four of his Morgantown location employees live in Garrett County and have traveled to Morgantown to work for the last four years.
Currently, the local office includes Josh Burkett, general manager; April Zimmerman, office manager; and Derek Ludwig, service tech. Emily Dillon, assistant office manager in Morgantown, is currently helping to get things going at the new location.
Seman explained that the company is a full-service residential, light commercial and new construction heating and cooling company. This includes furnaces and air conditioners for homes and businesses with rooftop units.
Residential work also includes boilers, radiant heat, water heaters and generators.
“We do many things,” he said. “We service all heating and cooling — oil and gas, air conditioners, heat pumps and boiler systems. We are a Carrier ductless dealer. This is really popular right now because in a lot of older homes that didn’t have air conditioning in them, it’s hard to get duct work up. With ductless systems, you don’t have duct work. You have units in each room so you have individual zone control.”
Seman said Advanced Heating and Cooling does business differently than other companies.
“We use a software program that’s really unique in how you dispatch and how you service customers,” he said.
He explained that when customers call in, if they are return customers, the company knows the complete history of what has been done to their system from the beginning. Preferred customers who buy a service agreement also get discounts and benefits.
Once the service is booked, customers receive a text message with a picture and a biography of the service tech.
“This is important in these days of security so you know exactly who the guy is that’s coming to your house,” Seman said.
In addition, customers can track the service tech so they know when he is on the way, and they can leave work to meet him at the door.
The company’s software is also used to price the repair. It includes the national average, which is then adjusted for the local area.
“It’s a different way of doing business,” Seman said. “You know up front. We have up front pricing on the way we do business so you know exactly what the cost is going to be.”
Seman said that 30 years in the restuarant business taught him a tremendous respect for people.
“I have a passion for customer service,” he said. “That was my motivation for opening my own business. It grew out of a passion for customer service and making sure everybody understands what you’re doing and are treated fairly.”
The company’s mission statement reflects this, as well.
“We don’t stop working until our customers are 100 percent satisfied, and we do it with employees that are wildly enthusiastic about working for Advanced Heating and Cooling.”
Seman stated that he’s never figured out how to give great service without great employees.
“We welcome feedback,” he said. “We’re a very open company, very passionate about customer service. That’s what makes us different.”
Seman was originally from Belle Vernon, Pennslyania, but went to West Virginia University and has lived in Morgantown since 1989. He remembers coming to Deep Creek Lake for prom picnics when he was in high school.
“I always felt that Deep Creek’s that area where you feel like you can really get away,” he said. “You feel like you’re on vacation. I just love it down here. I really like the community and everybody’s been really, really nice.”
He said he hopes that people are patient as the company grows.
“We hope to be a long-term player here in this market,” he said. “We really like being part of the community. You’ll see us involved in the Garrett County Fair and the Chamber of Commerce. You’ll see us involved in the things that we can do. We like supporting the community.”
Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and after-hours and weekend service times are also offered.
More information can be found on the company’s Facebook page and website.
