Garrett Regional Medical Center, Garrett County, and WVU Medicine to Hold Virtual Forums

Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) will hold two Virtual Public Forums with West Virginia University Medicine to provide area citizens with information on its proposed full partnership with WVU.
The forums will be held Tuesday, December 14th, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., and then again on Monday, December 20th, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  The sessions will include a short presentation as well as a question-and-answer period, with members of the public able to submit questions ahead of time.   The panel for the two events will include Mark Boucot, President & CEO at GRMC; Albert Wright, CEO at WVU Medicine; Shane Grady, GRMC Board Chair; and Karl Schwalm, MD, GRMC Board Vice Chair.
GRMC first became clinically affiliated with WVU Medicine in 2015.  That affiliation helped GRMC bring cancer care to the community as well as a host of other specialty services, including heart and vascular care, dermatology, nephrology, and urology, among others.
Through the new arrangement, GRMC would become a full participating member of WVU Medicine, opening the door for the expansion of specialty services to be provided at the GRMC campus in Oakland. The agreement will provide for local autonomy in the governance of the hospital and for local practices to continue to see their patients in the hospital.  The agreement will essentially be a lease the hospital facility to WVU Health System and will guarantee that the hospital will remain in operation for the next 50 years.
“This is an opportunity to grow the medical services offered in our community while maintaining the culture of excellence and high quality of care standards that Garrett Regional Medical Center is known for,” said Mark Boucot, CEO at GRMC.  “Our original affiliation agreement with WVU Medicine enabled us to provide services at GRMC that are unheard of for most rural hospitals.  Since our initial affiliation, we have been growing toward our vision to become a true regional medical center.  The move to fully partner with WVU Medicine will assure our continued growth and development and service line expansion to best serve our community and throughout our 8-county service area.”
