As a kickoff to the Kitzmiller Homecoming weekend, a milestone celebration ceremony was held on Friday, July 21, 2023, to celebrate the Coal Bucket Restaurant in Kitzmiller, Maryland on its 10th anniversary. 

 

Garrett County's Business Development Specialist, Connor Norman, led the ceremony.
 
Local dignitaries in attendance included Senator Mike McKay, County Commissioners Paul Edward and Larry Tichnell, Kitzmiller Mayor Robbie Reckart, Kitzmiller Town Councilman Mike Brady, Business Development Manager Kim Durst, Garrett County Chamber of Commerce Interim President Andrew Fike, and Chamber Membership Manager Nick Sharps.
 
During the ceremony, Senator McKay and Commissioner Edwards presented official citations recognizing the Coal Bucket.
 
“I am just so surprised at this,” said Barb McKinney owner of the Coal Bucket. “I planned to be out of business in a year and back to retirement, I guess I did something wrong. I love my people, my town, and our lovely customers.”  

Attendees congratulated the McKinney family and celebrated with lunch off their famous menu.

The Coal Bucket is a small, family-owned restaurant and gift shop serving Garrett County and the surrounding community in Kitzmiller, Maryland. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12 PM to 6 PM and Sunday from 12PM to 3 PM.
