Garrett County provides great access to world class higher education institutions. West Virginia University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, UPMC, the University of Pittsburgh, and Frostburg State University provide world class degree programs and groundbreaking research, product patent, and commercialization resources and opportunities.
 
 

State Colleges, Community Colleges, and Private Colleges

 
Numerous high quality state, private, and community colleges strategically cover the region offering a diversity of two and four-year degrees.  These institutions have a strong and distinguished history throughout the region and maintain multiple campuses and accessible services. Many of these colleges have and do work closely with businesses and companies in the region and have developed targeted two and four-year degrees and certification programs designed to meet their current and future workforce/occupational needs, including supply chain logistics and distribution, applied welding and heavy machine equipment operations, computer programming and support technicians, and nursing and health care-related support positions, among others.
 
 

Technical Training Institutes, Targeted Occupational Certification Programs, and Regional Education Consortiums


Garrett College's Career Technology and Training Center (CTTC), located in the Central Garrett Industrial Park in Accident and under the leadership of Garrett College, provides appropriate training for local high school graduates seeking a career in the trades. In addition to the classrooms and administrative offices, the CTTC houses both welding and electronics/automation labs. The facility is equipped to accommodate courses in the areas of alternative energy, technology and automation, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, CNC machining, carpentry, masonry, welding, veterinary tech, CNA, EMT, and other trades.
