Contrary to their name, Garrett County robotics programs are anything but mechanical.
Our students embrace critical thinking and intense problem solving, thanks to Garrett County Public Schools and GEARS, Inc., a nonprofit encouraging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) achievement. Our youth robotics teams have won over 50 state, national, and world robotics competitions.
Among the eight local robotics teams competing at three different grade levels are:
- The SuGObot team, which challenges youngsters to build high-tech robots using LEGO pieces.
- The FIRST LEGO League, geared for students ages 9 -14. The 2013 NeXT GEN team was named FIRST LEGO League World Champions.
- The FIRST Robotics Team, geared toward students in grades 9-12. The team competes regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- The FIRST Tech Challenge Team, a community-based competition encouraging the participation of high schoolers, parents, and educators.
